Democratic Candidates Unite to Protect Meadowview Nursing Home and to Oppose Medicaid Cuts

Today, the Democrats running for county office in November—Dr. Sherri Parmenter (Surrogate), Victoria Dolceamore (Commissioner‑at‑Large), Reverend Collins Days (Commissioner District 1), and Jonathan Marcellus (Commissioner District 4)—pledged their unwavering support for Meadowview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Northfield. As a county‑run facility serving primarily lower‑income and Medicaid patients, Meadowview is home to some of our most vulnerable neighbors and it must remain publicly operated and properly staffed.

“We cannot, and will not, abandon our seniors,” the candidates said in a joint statement. “Keeping Meadowview under public stewardship ensures transparency, maintains access for low‑income and Medicaid patients, and protects against hidden fees that come with privatization.”

While Parmenter, Dolceamore, Days, and Marcellus are open to exploring options like transferring management to the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMAVA), they emphasize that privatization is not the solution. Additionally, the four candidates declared their opposition to proposed cuts to Medicaid and the devastating effects that they would have on Atlantic County.

“The Trump Republican proposals to cut Medicaid, however they are disguised, only create more hardships for our most vulnerable populations,” the candidates said. “We urge our opponents to join us in opposition to these cuts which would hurt families in Meadowview and across the county.”

Finally, the candidates are advocating for more competitive salaries and benefits to attract and retain qualified and caring staff to Meadowview Nursing Home. The current wages fall behind those in neighboring counties, forcing skilled caregivers to seek higher-paying opportunities elsewhere. Without fair compensation and improved benefits, Meadowview will continue to face staffing challenges that undermine the quality of care residents deserve.
