Schroeder Calls for Summit to Address Atlantic County's Last-Place Ranking in Children's Well Being
Atlantic County Freeholder Jim Schroeder is calling upon Atlantic County government to convene a summit of stakeholders to address the findings of Kids Count that ranks Atlantic County last in children's well being.
“We need to bring in educators, child care advocates, health care professionals and the business community to identify the necessary resources and a strategic plan to improve upon this terrible situation,” Schroeder said.“As a grandfather of five children under the age of eight, these findings strike close to home.”
“We need an even greater effort throughout Atlantic County to improve the plight of our children.I recognize that area professionals have worked hard to prevent these problems, but the facts speak for themselves that a more focused and intensive effort is required.”
“We constantly hear that Atlantic County is the best-run county in the state.In many areas that is true, but this report card shows that Atlantic County needs substantial improvement on behalf of all our children but particularly those who happen to be poor.”
“This report is a call to action to harness the resources required to ensure that our children's well being is at the top of our priority list and that we never again find ourselves ranked in last place when it comes to our kids.”
